What makes it safe

Built for people who don't know each other yet

A client and a freelancer who have never met still have to exchange money and work. Escrow, a written scope, brief-based dispute resolution and verification you can't hand yourself are what make that trade safe — for both of them, on the very first order.

Briefs that turn into quotable specs

A vague sentence becomes a structured request freelancers can price.

NepalCanWork reads the brief, drafts a real title, a deliverables checklist, and a budget range pulled from what the category actually charges. You edit every line before it posts.

Semantic matching finds the right gig even when your words don't match its title.

Every gig carries a meaning vector alongside the keyword index. When a result is found by meaning alone it is labelled an AI match, so you always know why it surfaced — and queries that find nothing are captured as real, unmet demand.

The SMS number proves identity and is never shown publicly or used for payouts. The payout number is verified by Hamro Pay itself. The Verified Company badge is issued by staff, by hand — no account can set it on itself.

The dashboard shows what is still held against the order, what has been released and is in flight to the gateway, and what actually landed. Withdrawals go to a Hamro Pay number you verified, or Western Union if you're working from outside Nepal.

How this marketplace runs

Work comes from the world. It gets done in Nepal.

Most marketplaces try to be everyone's supply and everyone's demand at once. This one runs in a single direction on purpose — and that direction is the product, not a limitation we're working around.

Demand

Clients from anywhere

Post a request or buy a fixed-price gig from wherever you are. Requirements, revisions, files and messages all live in the order workspace, so the work survives the time-zone gap instead of dying in an inbox.

Supply

Freelancers from Nepal

Not an infinite global pool — one country's, on purpose. It stays legible: you are hiring from a market you can actually get to know. Every freelancer clears a one-time SMS identity check before they can publish a gig or place a bid.

The money

Escrow across the border

A gig can be priced and quoted in USD as well as rupees, with the exchange rate locked at checkout so the number you agree to is the number you pay. Whatever the currency, it is held in escrow until you approve — and cleared earnings land in Nepal.

Checkout settles through Hamro Pay today, so paying from outside Nepal needs a Hamro Pay account. Card checkout for international clients is in progress — we'd rather tell you here than at the payment screen.

Both sides of the deal

One platform, two jobs to do

Most people on NepalCanWork eventually do both — hire for what they can't do, sell what they can.

If you're hiring

  1. 1

Post a request or order a gig

Describe the job and take bids, or buy a fixed-price gig outright.

  2. 2

    Fund the order

Pay once with Hamro Pay. The money sits in escrow, not in the freelancer's account.

  3. 3

    Review the delivery

Ask for revisions if the brief was missed. Approve when it's right.

  4. 4

    Release and rate

Approval pays the freelancer and posts your review to their profile.

If you're freelancing

  1. 1

    Verify your phone

A one-time SMS check. It keeps throwaway accounts off the marketplace.

  2. 2

List gigs or bid on requests

Package your skills at a fixed price, or pitch on the request board.

  3. 3

    Start knowing you'll be paid

You only begin once the client's money is already sitting in escrow.

  4. 4

    Withdraw to Hamro Pay

Cleared earnings go to your verified Hamro Pay number, or Western Union.

For freelancers

The money is real before you open the file

You've done the unpaid version of this job before: deliver, then chase — and it gets worse the further away the client is. On NepalCanWork the client funds escrow before you start, wherever in the world they are, so the only question left is whether you do the work — not whether you'll see the money.

How escrow works

Neither side has to trust the other first

Freelancing goes wrong at the same two moments: paying before the work exists, or working before the money exists. Escrow removes both.

01

The client pays into escrow

Payment goes to NepalCanWork through Hamro Pay — never straight to the freelancer. The freelancer can see the money is there before starting, so nobody works on a promise.

02

The work happens on the record

Requirements, revisions, files and messages all live in the order workspace. If anything is ever contested, the full history already exists.

03

Approval releases the money

Funds move only when the client approves. If the work misses the brief, either side opens a dispute and we mediate against what was actually agreed.

Disputes are mediated against the written brief and the delivery history — not against whoever complains loudest.

Request composer

Describe it badly. Post it properly.

Knowing what to ask for is half the job — and it's the half clients don't have. Type the brief however it comes out. NepalCanWork turns it into a request freelancers can actually quote against: a real title, a deliverables checklist, and a budget range drawn from what that category actually charges.

When it goes wrong

Three layers before anyone calls it a dispute

Every marketplace can hold money. What decides whether you get treated fairly is what happens when two people disagree about whether the work is done.

Escrow

The money is never in the freelancer's hands

It sits with NepalCanWork from checkout until you approve. That's what makes every layer below enforceable — there's always something to give back.

  • Released on your approval

Nobody at NepalCanWork can push it through for them.

  • Auto-approves after 3 days

So freelancers aren't held hostage by silence.

  • Frozen the moment you dispute

The clock stops and nothing moves until there's a verdict.

The scope contract

Layer 0

Most disputes are really scope arguments. So before the delivery clock starts, the freelancer has to press "I accept these requirements" — or bounce them back for clarification. Every later disagreement is judged against that one artifact.

Resolution Center

Layer 1

If something's off, either side proposes a settlement — a partial refund, an extra revision, a deadline extension. One tap to accept. Most disagreements never need to go further than this.

Formal dispute

Layer 2

The last resort, not the first move. Both sides file evidence against fixed deadlines, AI triages the file against the scope contract, and a human issues the verdict with a written rationale you can appeal.

Verdicts are written against the scope contract both sides accepted — and every one of them comes with a rationale you can appeal.

No scam, no leap of faith

Nobody on this platform is working on a promise

The oldest freelancing scam is the one where the work gets delivered and the money never arrives. It works because the money never existed. Here it exists first, sits with NepalCanWork, and moves on rules that neither side can quietly rewrite.

Funded before anyone starts

The order is paid into escrow first. Only then is the freelancer asked to accept the scope — so the work never begins on a promise, on either side.

Only you can release it

Approval is the buying account's action. The order API refuses it from anyone else — not the freelancer, not support. Every staff override needs a written reason and lands in the order's own timeline.

Silence can't strand a freelancer

If a client neither approves nor disputes, the platform approves for them after 3 days. Nobody gets to hold a freelancer's money hostage by going quiet.

One dispute freezes everything

The moment either side opens a dispute the order leaves the payout path entirely. Nothing moves until a written verdict lands — and the verdict is appealable.

What we won't claim

We won't tell you the money lands the second you press approve

It doesn't, and a payout speed you can't verify is the first thing a scam offers you. Approval starts a hold window, the hold releases the payout, and the gateway settles the transfer on its own clock. Slower than what you'll be promised elsewhere — and it is the actual behaviour, printed here, which you can watch happen step by step on the order page.

The hold and auto-approve windows are platform settings, and these figures are read live from the same config the order engine uses.

The real clock, end to end

  1. You approve the delivery

    T+0

The only thing that starts the clock. Nothing before this moves a rupee.

  2. The 6-hour hold window

    T+6h

A dispute filed inside this window stops the release outright.

  3. Payout queued to Hamro Pay

    T+1

The transfer is handed to the gateway and settles on its clock — often same-day, up to T+1.

Before any of it: the money was already in escrow, and the freelancer could see it was. That is the part that stops the scam — not the speed of the last hop.

Fees

The whole pricing page, in one paragraph

Clients pay a service fee on top of the freelancer's price. Freelancers are charged nothing and keep their full quote. There is no listing fee, no subscription, and no cut taken quietly at payout.

A worked example

Freelancer's price
Rs. 2,400
Service fee (20%)
Rs. 480
You pay
Rs. 2,880
Freelancer receivesRs. 2,400

The full quote, with 0% deducted. Checkout shows you this exact breakdown before you pay.

What the 20% actually buys

  • Escrow custody

We hold and reconcile the money through Hamro Pay for the life of the order.

  • Dispute adjudication

A human reads the file and writes a verdict when you can't agree. That costs real money to staff.

  • The request composer

AI turns rough briefs into quotable specs and prices them against real category data.

  • Verification

SMS identity checks and gateway-verified payout numbers, so the person you hire is a person.

Rates shown are today's platform defaults. Any change applies to future orders only, and the breakdown is always on the checkout screen before you pay.

For companies

Hire a bench, or become one

A company account works both directions. Staff up for a sprint without a payroll line, or trade as a verified agency and let the escrow record do your sales for you.

Hiring at scale

Post one request, compare bids side by side, and chat before you commit. Every order is escrow-backed and every delivery is on the record — so procurement has a paper trail without you building one.

  • Bid inbox with freelancer snapshots
  • One receipt and fee breakdown per order
  • Dispute cover on every rupee

Selling as an agency

Verified Company

Trade under your company name with your logo, team size and website on the profile. Verified companies carry a badge we issue by hand — it can't be self-assigned, which is exactly why clients trust it.

  • Company profile, not a personal one
  • List gigs and bid as the business
  • Same escrow protection on both sides

Illustrative

What working here should feel like

NepalCanWork is early. The accounts below are illustrative examples of the outcomes the escrow model is built to produce — not quotes from named customers.

I've hired designers and writers here for a year. Escrow is the reason I stopped worrying about paying strangers upfront — the money only moves once I've seen the work.

FAQ

The questions people actually ask

Still unsure about something? The answer is usually “the money stays in escrow until you say otherwise” — but here are the specifics.

How does escrow actually work?

When you order, you pay NepalCanWork — not the freelancer. We hold the money while the work happens. It's released to the freelancer only when you approve the delivery. If you never approve and never dispute, the order auto-approves after 3 days so freelancers aren't left hanging indefinitely.

When does a freelancer actually get paid?

On approval. The funds move from escrow to the freelancer's NepalCanWork balance, clear a short hold window, and then become withdrawable to their Hamro Pay number. Freelancers can see the money exists in escrow before they start work — that's the entire point.

What if the work isn't what I asked for?

Request a revision first — gigs include a set number. If that doesn't resolve it, open the Resolution Center and propose a settlement, like a partial refund. If you still can't agree, escalate to a formal dispute: both sides file evidence and a human issues a verdict against the scope contract you both accepted. Your money stays frozen in escrow the whole time.

What does NepalCanWork charge?

Clients pay a 20% service fee on top of the freelancer's price. Freelancers are charged 0% — they keep their full quoted amount. The exact breakdown is always shown at checkout before you pay anything.

I'm outside Nepal — can I hire here?

Yes — that's the whole design. The demand side is global and the freelancer side is Nepal. A gig can be priced and quoted in USD as well as rupees, with the exchange rate locked at checkout so the figure you agree to is the figure you pay, and every order is escrow-held either way. One thing we'd rather say here than at the payment screen: checkout currently settles through Hamro Pay, so funding an order needs a Hamro Pay account. Card checkout for international clients is in progress.

How do payouts work?

Cleared earnings withdraw to a Hamro Pay number you've verified through the gateway. Western Union is available as an alternative payout rail, with the fee and minimum shown upfront before you request it.

Do I have to verify my phone?

Only freelancers, and only once. A single SMS check is required before you can publish a gig or bid on a request — it's what keeps throwaway accounts from undercutting real freelancers. Clients can hire without it. The number you verify is used for identity only: never for payouts, and never shown on your public profile.

Start with the money already safe

Post what you need from wherever you are and take bids from Nepal, or list your skills and get paid to your Hamro Pay. Either way, escrow holds the money until the work is approved.
